Urban flood prevention scheme. Black poplar (Populus nigra betulifolia), a rare native tree characteristic of UK flood plains, being retained as part of an urban flood prevention and relief scheme. This scheme is designed to reduce the damage caused during flooding on a range of scales, up to and including large floods that happen on average once every 100 years. Photographed in 2010, in Denbigh, Denbighshire, Wales.
