Ent. 3, p. 698,) refers it to the Trichiidae. * By information recently received from Captains Boys and Hutton, and Dr. Benson, I am induced to believe that other specimens ofthis insect, or of a nearly allied species have lately been fomid in India. + The stag-beetles (Lucanidse) seem to occur in a reversed proportion in these two parts of the globe : the oriental species farexceeding, both in numbers and size, those of the New World.
