Duane Perkins, St. Paul District technical engineer lead for the Fargo, North Dakota/Moorhead, Minnesota Metro Area Diversion project examines a paint coating on a piece of a Tainter gate that will be erected at the Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, Wild Rice Structure near Horace, North Dakota, Sept. 19. The Corps of Engineers’ contractor lifted the other gate into place Sept. 19. The Tainter gates are a key component to the structure. Once the project is complete, it will reduce flood risk to more than 235,000 people within the region.
