The shellis quite large,but is of lightweight, owing tothe extremethinness of thevarices. It isFs 199 reddish brown in color though nearly white internally. Wlien ex-amined closely it seems to be almost wholly madeup of wings, and one wonders somewhat where theanimal found internal space enough to carry onbusiness. The original young specimen fromwhich the species was named was dredged from thevicinity of Catalina Island, and was less than halfan inch long. Adult specimens of the size of thecut have recently been dredged in considerablenumbers in the vicinity of San Pedro, and a fewhave been found on the
