Kamberaga (or "Kamber Aga") stone, arched bridge in the mountainous region of Zagori, Ioannina, Epirus, Greece
This is another one of the many stone bridges of the region of Zagori and it is called Kamber Aga (or Kamberaga) bridge. Behind you can see the new bridge. It is located in eastern Zagori, between the villages of Potamia and Miliotades. If you want to find it you have to turn left almost halfway going from Ioannina to Metsovo, taking the road that leads to Greveniti and Vovousa. All around the mountainous region of Zagoria, at Ioannina Prefecture, you 'll see dozens of beautiful stone bridges of the past centuries, like this one known as Kontodimos (of Lazarides) bridge. Among the most famous of them are Plakidas (or Kalogeriko), Kleidonia, Kokkoris', Kamber Aga, all of them stone bridges, that seem to be perfectly "fitted" to the natural environment (they usually take their name by the "sponsor" of the work). The inhabitants of Zagori and Epirus in general, were acknowledged builders and specializes in stone constructions for many centuries not only in Greece, but also the Balkans, Europe, even America and Africa, building beautiful stone houses and bridges. They used to travel in groups like Caravans around the world, making sort of a "tour", and they left their homes for many years. What amazes me the most in their case is that although these people didn't have a special education, still they had great sense of aesthetics.
