Provided there is the possibility of a radial play whentaking the impression the cavity does not need to be dovetailed to itsfull height, but need be opened only centrally sufficient for theintroduction of the sprue wire (see a, Fig. 11). With the growing use of inlays the question has also beenraised as to the need for an easy removal of an inlay in case thetooth exhibits inflammatory symptoms. With hollow shaped inlays, such as I have shown, this would not be a difficult matter; all thatwould be needed would be to drill through the cast at the base of theanchor so as to sever it, and to force out the two parts one after theother. The anchor point penetrating a canal could also, previous tocementing in, be coated with gutta percha cement. 132 THE DENTAL REVIEW. The following method of construction, as shown in Fig. 12, isalso practical, especially when the inlay is to be used as an abut-. ment for a bridge: The metal points used as supports are firstfastened with gutta percha into the enlarged root canals and the ORIGINAL COMMUNICATIONS. 133 inlay with its anchor pin is cemented in. The application of heatwould loosen the supports and allow the inlay to be readilyforced out. Pig. 13 shows the section of a hollow constructed crown basedon the same principle and made to embrace pins set independentlyinto the root canals. These pins when used as a support for a bridge, previously to the moulding of the wax crown, can be bent to suit theintroduction of the appliance. As shown at c, in Fig. 13, the edges of the stump are wellbeveled to prevent lateral displacements; but if a case should presentitself where the burring out centrally of a stump were possible with-out .perforating it, I would advise hollowing it internally and out-wards till a sound flat edge is left standing, and then place internallya collar with end pr
