( cm. x cm.), During a trip to Holland in 1847, Constant Troyon, a member of the French Barbizon School of naturalist landscape painting, discovered and became inspired by seventeenth-century Dutch animal portraits. Troyon was known thereafter as an animal painter and found acclaim for these works.
