Statue of Lord Horatio Nelson erected 1847 as a seamark on N shore of the Menai Strait NE of Plas Newydd, home of the Marquesses of Anglesey. Lord Clarence Paget, admiral & son of the 1st Marquess, placed the statue on the shore near his home Plas Llanfair as an aid to navigation. Inscriptions read: "England expects that every man will do his duty" & "Fell at Trafalgar 1805".
