He re-ceived his education in various publicschools throughout the country, gradu-ating from Lowell High School of Chi-cago in 1912. He then took up news-paper work, being employed by the Asso-ciated Press and the Chicago was admitted to the First OfficersTraining Camp at Fort Sheridan, wherehe received a commission as second lieu-tenant in the Q. M. C, and was assignedto Camp Grant and detailed for duty asan assistant to the intelligence officer ofthe Eighty-sixth Division. On December13, 1917, he was ordered to Camp John-ston, Florida, and made assistant campintelligence officer. On March 19th hewas ordered to report to the ActingQuartermaster General for duty and de-tailed for work in Washington, D. C. Hewas promoted to a first lieutenant onApril 30th, and to a captain on August23, 1918. Captain Thrush was severelyinjured in September by an automobileaccide
