The southern tower mosaics, Aberystwyth old College, Wales

The external mosaic on the southern tower depicts Archimedes receiving emblems of modern science and industry. Aberystwyth University (Welsh: Prifysgol Aberystwyth; sometimes called "Aber" or "the College by the Sea") is a university located in Aberystwyth, Wales. Aberystwyth was a founding Member Institution of the former federal University of Wales. The University was founded in 1872 as University College Wales. The first Principal was Thomas Charles Edwards. Prince Charles also attended the Old College (part of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth), where he studied the Welsh language and Welsh history, also making him the first Prince of Wales born outside of Wales to ever attempt to learn the language of the principality.
