Temple of Pitturata, ancient church in Sicily

This ancient ruin known as the "Temple of Pitturata" or simply "Favorita" by the name of the district where it is located, is a special design on a square plan with a unique indoor environment centric inscribed and dome cover. It was discovered by the famous French painter Houel who made a painting in '700; But still the origin is rather uncertain although for construction technique comes close to the Byzantine period such that it could be considered a "Cuba." Other authors claim to be a mausoleum of the late Roman era, both for its architecture which recalls very closely the famous Pantheon in Rome, and for the fact that Paul Bears spotted the very next remains of a Roman villa with mosaics leftovers, still lost. Today in the soil in which it stands is found abundant pottery mainly from the Roman and Byzantine eras. The interior was frescoed and are still observed vague traces of paint. Aside from an architectural study of the ruins, at the time have not yet been carried out excavations there for maintenance and the risk of collapse, or worse, of vandalism, is very high.
