Inflammatory bowel disease. Light micrograph of a section through an intestinal wall showing mesenteric inflammatory veno-occlusive disease (MIVOD). Several of the veins (red) show inflammatory infiltration and are blocked by blood clots (thrombi). This is a rare disease that results in loss of blood flow (ischaemia) to the intestines. It cause is not known. Magnification: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
