Frozen blood plasma bag. Bags of blood plasma (yellow) kept frozen in cryostorage in a haematology laboratory. This is a pooled cryoprecipitate of leucodepleted blood plasma, labelled as blood group A and rhesus positive (RhD positive). Donor blood is separated into its component parts to make it easier to transfuse blood with the correct components. The plasma component can be frozen for later use. Blood transfusions are carried out to replace blood in people with blood disorders, or those who have lost blood through trauma or surgery. The blood group and type needs to be matched to that of the patient.
