Climate tipping points, illustration. A tipping point is a threshold beyond which there are self-perpetuating irreversible changes to the Earth's climate system. These tipping points including melting (blue) of ice sheets, glaciers and permafrosts, the destruction (green) of rainforests, forests and coral reefs and the collapse of oceanic and atmospheric currents (orange).
