THE LACROSSE FIELD ARTILLERY MISSILE WAS DESIGNED FOR THE UNITES STATES ARMY BY THE CORNELL AERONAUTICAL LABORATORY AND WENT INTO PRODUCTION IN 1956 AT THE MARTIN COMPANY PLANT IN ORLANDO FLORIDA IT WAS LAUNCHED FROM A 6X6 TRUCK FOR TACTICAL SUPPORT OF TROOPS IN FORWARD COMBAT AREAS RADIO GUIDED BY A FORWARD OBSERVER IT CARRIED EITHER A HIGH EXPLOSIVE OR AN ATOMIC WARHEAD ITS SOLID ROCKET MOTOR GAVE IT A RANGE OF FROM 12 TO 20 MILES WHEN ARMED WITH AN ATOMIC WARHEAD IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE HOW THE FORWARD AREA TROOPS WOULD HOPE TO AVOID THE ATOMIC BLAST OR RESULTING NUCLEAR FALL OUT U S AIR FORCE MUSEUM CAPE CANVERAL AFS FLORIDA
