SOUTH CHINA SEA (May 6, 2017) Fleet replenishment oiler USNS John Ericsson (T-AO-194) transits the South China Sea before a replenishment-at-sea with Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Dewey (DDG 105) and USS Sterett (DDG 104). Dewey and Start are part of the Sterett-Dewey Surface Action Group and are the third deploying group operating under the command and control construct called 3rd Fleet Forward. The 3rd Fleet operating forward offers additional options to the Pacific Fleet commander by leveraging the capabilities of 3rd and 7th Fleets.
