His capacity for the most mi-nute analysis and the broadest and most universal synthesis, was truly ama-zing, the proofs of which are met with in almost every page of his works ; hepossessed also, to a remarkable extent, the faculty of intuitive conception (orwhich we will call such, for want of a better name), which seems to be a giftaccompanying the highest order of genius. Thirdly, he possessed in an ex-traordinary degree the highest class of moral sentiments, such as benevolentsympathy, which extended to the whole human, race, and a love of justice,which in rum seemed universal. Louis PHILIPPE, late king of the French, the eldest son of the duke of Or-leans, better known in the revolutionary times as Philippe Egalite, and ofMarie, only daughter of the duke of Penthievre, was born in Paris, October 6,1773. Conducted under the care of Madame de Genlis, his education wasbased on enlightened principles, and was directed equally to the developmentof the physical, moral, and intellectual nature of the pupil.
