In 1850this county produced 118,616 bushels of wheat; 220,532 ofcorn; and 2,476,135 pounds of tobacco. There were 6 flourmills, 1 tobacco factory, and 1 iron foundry. It contained 16churches; 275 pupils attending public schools, and 30 attendingan academy. The county was formed from Goochland in , Cumberland Court House. Population, 9751, of whom3422 were free, and 6329 slaves. Cumberland Court House, a post-village, capital of Cumber-land county, Virginia, 55 miles W. from Kichmond.
