At least nine people were killed at one of the gates of the Mar Mina church in the south of Cairo when the church was stormed by two gunmen. The police killed one of the attackers in a clash later, and another suspect was later arrested. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack but without providing any evidence for it
