Water about foot andhalf deep around nest in ten feet fromshore. Mother slid off nest when wewere still one-ouarter of a mile well incubated. One of theyoung Loons in the egg was makinga small noise like the mother, couldbe distinctly heard without holding tothe ear. Second nest found August 15, 1914,on island, in middle of lake, undersome bushes, just a slight depression,two very pretty but rotten must have killed or desertedfor some reason
