Weather radar. The radar equipment inside the polygonal dome on top of the building is used to detect rainfall. Weather radar detects rainfall by sending out pulses of microwaves that are detected as they are reflected from rain drops. The Doppler effect allows both the position and movement of the rain to be mapped. This radar station is being operated by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. It is located in the Chenies area, Hertfordshire, UK. Photographed in 1987.
