Duke Paoa Kahanamoku (1890-1968), often simply referred to as "The Duke", was a lengendary native Hawaiian surfer regarded as The Father of Modern Surfing. He was also a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming who competed in the 1912, 1920, and 1924 Summer Olympics, as well as being an alternate for the water polo team at the 1932 Olympics. Kahanamoku is included in the Swimming Hall of Fame, the Surfing Hall of Fame, and the Olympic Hall of Fame. (Pictured here c1924)
