St Petersburg, Russia - 12 June 2011; no people in view. The magnificent Saint Isaac's Cathedral (Isaakievskiy Sobor) is a prominent landmark in St Isaac's Square, Saint Petersburg; here we see its dome in the distance. The pompous equestrian statue on the foreground is of Czar Nicholas I. Nicholas I, who reigned from 1825 until 1855. Like many of the czars, he was a noted reactionary and despot.
