PLATELET, DRAWING

Platelets are small cellular elements without a nucleus. There are about 200,000 to 400,000 platelets per cubic millimeter of blood. Platelets play a crucial role in coagulation and inflammation due to their adherent and aggregation properties. Platelets are disk-like structures measuring 2 to 3 micrometers in diameter. Aggregation of platelets forms a blood clot (explaining why anti-platelet treatments may be useful).
