The records for the chiggers and the lizards are arranged by month. The number of lizards is shown as a bar. Most of the lizards in July to October are small and the hatchlings are indicated separately. Note the absence of Odontacarus arizonen- sis in the fall of 1962. elevated to generic rank (Vercammen-Grandjean, 1960). We have tentatively assigned Euschoen- gastia longitorsala Powder and Loomis (1962) to the genus Euschoengastoides, sensu lato. In addition. Hexidionis lacerticola (Loomis) follows Lucas and Loomis (196S). Finally, we have used the name Neotrombicula harperi (Ewing) for the larva taken from lizards in southern Cali- fornia even though they probably represent a new, but closely similar species. Each species of chigger had its own sites of attachment and a different seasonal occurrence and abundance of the larvae. Results of four year study.—The survey of lizards and their ectoparasites was conducted continuously for four years from 1960 through 1963. We have summarized this information on Uta stansburiana and its chiggers for each month on four graphs (Fig. 2) each representing a single year, and one graph (Fig. 3) combines these four years. The total of 1314 Side-blotched Lizards examined included recaptures as well.
