The pinwheel gardens are a yearly initiative to support Child Abuse Prevention Month. There are 27 pinwheel gardens located throughout Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. The gardens are hosted by the MCCS Family Advocacy Program and supported by volunteers from the installation’s Single Marine Program. Last week, our Commander and Director Captain Ewing and our Executive Officer Captain Barbabella met and thanked the volunteers while the pinwheels were being planted at NMCCL. Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention month because they represent a childhood full of joy and playfulness. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive, learn and grow to be successful contributing members of their community. They serve as a reminder to encourage others to be the voice for children and to make child abuse prevention a priority. NMCCL's pinwheel garden is located on the hill next to the Emergency Department.
