Skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the neck of a 90-year-old woman. This cancer, known as a rodent ulcer, is the most common form of skin cancer among fair- skinned people, mostly affecting the elderly. It usually appears on the face and is thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Although it slowly destroys surrounding tissues, it rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Treatments include surgery, cryosurgery and radiotherapy.
