Greasly's Masterpiece

Express passenger steam traction lasted on Britain’s Southern Region until as late as summer 1967 with the magnificent Bulleid Pacifics operating between London Waterloo, Bournemouth and Weymouth and speeds in excess of 100mph were recorded in the final weeks. Shortly before electric traction took over, former LNER A4 Class Pacific , ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’, operated an enthusiast’s special between Waterloo and Weymouth. The thoroughbred is seen here bringing the coaches up to Bournemouth Central for the return journey to London Waterloo.
