Scientist using a computer in testing blood group type, a means of classifying blood based on the presence of inherited red cell antigens. Blood of one group contains serum antibodies that react against cells of other groups. The ABO system is most widely used & is based on the presence or absence of antigens A and B; group O contains neither antigens. Group A blood contains antibodies to antigen B; group B contains anti-A antibodies; group AB neither and group O both. Blood containing either or both antibodies cannot be mixed with blood containing corresponding antigens.
