Outer ear infection. Close-up of pus discharging from the ear of a 5-year-old male patient with an outer ear infection, known as otitis external. Otitis external can be caused by both fungal and bacterial infections. Symptoms may include itching, pain, a discharge of pus from the ear canal, and temporary deafness. Treatment may include antibiotic drugs, antifungal drugs, or corticosteroid drugs. Here it was caused by infection with Pseudomonas sp. bacteria.
