DOVER, Del. - Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Howard, a dentist with 4th Marine Dental Bn., assisted by Army Specialist Rene Sakang, correct a dental problem for a local resident as part of the Central Delaware Partnership for Hope Exercise. “We're doing a joint operation here with the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, and us, the Navy and Marine Corps,” said Commander Michael Kahn, dentist and officer-in-charge of dental services. “Med techs from the different branches and hospital departments with us, allow us to run the sterilization, x-rays, and complete exams. We able to do a variety of procedures with the same level of sterilization that you would find in any other dental clinic, anywhere else in the military or civilian sector.” This effort is part of the Secretary of Defense Innovative Readiness Program which pairs communities in need, such as this one, with military units that need to realize their training hours. The exercise here performed thousands of services over two weeks for those who would have otherwise not had the means in their day-to-day lives.
