Mr. Gerner was born in London, Eng-land, in 1870 and was educated in theschools of that country. He was later trans-ferred to the Cincinnati Department whenthat department was organized and was ap-pointed Chief Inspector in December 1911. Rather taciturn by nature, Mr. Gerner was an energetic, con-scientious and painstaking worker. Characterized as a thorough en-gineer, he carried on the work of his Department in a most approvedmanner.
