Close up of Taj Mahal, Agra, India.

In 1631 Mumtaz Mahal, the adored third wife of Shah Jahan, died in childbirth. Grief stricken, Shah Jahan commenced to build the Taj Mahal as her mausoleum and it was completed in 1648. It is considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture and in 1983 the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
