The Conference dealt with the subjectof slavery, but so far from making anychange in the section of the original Dis-cipline relating to the matter, it added aparagraph to the effect that the passagewas understood in the sense of the dec-larations made by the General Confer-ences of 1836 and 1840. The matter oftheir responsibility as Christians to thenegro population received full duty was enjoined upon all, accord-ing to their ability, of giving the gospelto the negro population.
