This auxiliary attack was confided to General Spangaro. General Rostoff commanded the troops at Santa Maria. The whole movement was merely a feint to engage the attention of the guns and garrison generally, while Garibaldi and Türr crossed the Voltumo, and got round to the north-easterly side of Capua, to reconnoitre and obtain possession of Cajazzo, where the high ground entirely commands the city'.
