Young girl and her mother wind blowing sorgum grain in a village. West Nile Uganda

These photographs were taken with the help of The Lutheran World Trust in Karamojo. They show traditional tribal villages with absolutely no modernisation. The Karamajong are an isolated tribe and at the time of photographing in 1989 ruled their own territory with no outside intervention. There were still raiding parties made by young heavily armed warriors, and one night a man was shot by a raid in the compound next to where we were staying. These photos show a way of life that has not changed for probably thousands of years and may still be the same today.
