Horsetail Ferns, genus Equisetum. They are unusual in that they reproduce by spores rather than flowering. Spore-bearing fertile stems appear in early Springtime and these are followed by the sterile green stems pictured here that are growing on a damp bank by a pond in Dorset. The plant has various uses including medicinal and it is rich in silicon. Dorset England UK GB.
