The right hand map is after Gabriel Symeon. Provenance: "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" by Abraham Ortelius, Antwerp. Type: Antique sixteenth century copperplate map. Two maps on one sheet. Uncoloured. Two maps on one sheet. The left hand map shows the province of Berry, including parts of the departements of Indre, Cher & Nièvre. Bourges is located at the centre of the map, Nevers at the right hand side. Other towns marked include Romorantin, Gien, Le Blanc, Châteauroux, and Châtillon-sur-Indre. The right hand map shows the Allier river valley in the present-day deparetement of Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne. The map covers the section from Randan in the north to Cournon-d'Auvergne in the south. Clermont-Ferrand is prominently marked on the left hand side.
