Malpais Lava Flow

Carrizozo, New Mexico - The Malpais Nature Trail winds through the Malpais Lava Flow at the Valley of Fires Recreation Area. The lava flow is the result of an eruption of Little Black Peak 5,000 years ago. The area is in the Chihuahuan desert. It is administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
