There is some confusion in respect of Montagues lichen. Both Babing-ton and Nylander consider the New Zealand hchen to be the Psoroma nigro-cincta of Montague. But in fact Montagues plant, of which there is anauthentic specimen in the Kew Museum (probably contributed by Montaguehimsell), is a true Psoroma; the thallus with large green gonidia, apotbeciabiatorine, excipulum of a pale brown or Indian pink, and agreeing closelywith the description in Sylloge Plant.
