Recovery room. Two female nurses monitor an unconscious, anaesthetised Asian patient in a recovery room after a surgical operation. The nurse at left is taking the patient's pulse rate, whilst the other is attaching an instrument sensor to the patient's thumb. At upper centre (from top to bottom), instruments measure the patient's: heart electrical activity; pulse rate and oxygen content; blood pressure. These procedures help to identify any developing complications caused by the anaesthetic drug as the patient recovers.
