Wind and conditions on a sultry Florida day have draped the petals of this Blue Flag Iris into a lovely purple cross.

Known as Audubon's Crown Jewel, a trip to Florida's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary offers beauties of many kinds. Corkscrew is home to ancient cypress trees, many bird species, some industrious arachnids, and many varieties of ferns, orchids and iris flowers. This particular Blue Flag Iris whether due to humidity or breezes sweeping through the wilderness has its lovely petals draped in the form of a cross. The form and drape of the petals is so perfect, it was meant to be seen and photographed. It is startling against the forest colors, shades and shadows and provides a colorful counterpoint.
