Llanwrtyd Wells, UK. 14th June 2014. Andrew Palmer 45, from Penarth, competes for the first time. Runners & horses compete in the 23 mile Man V Horse marathon over rugged Welsh terrain. Gordon Green conceived the event in 1980 upon overhearing a pub debate whether man was equal to horse running cross country over distance. Huw Lobb was the first man to beat a horse-by 2 minutes-and won the £1,000 annually escalating prize total of £25,000 in 2004. 2014 sees the reintroduction of escalating prize money and introduction of electronic timing.
