River Thames, Oxfordshire, England - 13 July 2019 Poppies are flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. They are herbaceous plants, often found wild or grown for their colourful flowers. Following the trench warfare in the poppy fields of Flanders, during World War I, poppies have become a symbol of remembrance for soldiers who have died during wartime. This beautiful group of wild red poppies was spotted growing by the Thames path, which follows the river, at Iffley, Oxfordshire, England. In fact, the gleaming reflection of the sun in the river create this stunning back-lighting. Everyday beauty in nature - just stop and look!
