Craigie Knowe, a 1842-built stone farm house and vineyard converted into luxury villa accommodation in Swansea, Tasmania. Meaning “craggy knoll” in Gaelic, the rich volcanic soil of Craigie Knowe was first planted with vines by John Austwick in 1979, who hand-picked his crop and fermented the grapes in his garden shed. Austwick pioneered wine on Tasmania’s east coast; now it’s a thriving crop for the stretch of land between Swansea and the Freycinet Peninsula turn off.
