Grow Dat Youth Farm nurtures a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. The urban farm received a grant through USDA’s Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production for a Mobile Food Access Expansion Project, which will respond to and improve the unhealthy relationship to local food systems experienced by young adults in New Orleans. In either case, the more direct access to fresh vegetable, fruit, and meat products that may be realised through urban agriculture can improve food security and food safety while decreasing food miles, leading to lower greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation.
