The men who composed my Regiment ought to be remem-bered by a grateful country as among those who made thenames of Kilpatrick, Custer and Sheridan immortal and whoserecord for bravery and heroic service to their country willnever die. 97. 1863. INCIDENTS OF THE CAMPAIGN OF R. Marshall the Battle of Yellow Tavern, May 11th, 1864, our Regi-ment was ordered to charge up a hill by column of fours 98 through a cut, but meeting with such fierce resistance the cutsoon became so blocked with dead men and horses that furtheradvance was impossible, and we were then ordered to dismountand fight on foot.
