Gallegos is a village sitting on the slopes of an ancient volcano in the north of La Palma in the Canary Islands.

Sitting on a hot spot deep under earth's surfrace La Palma is an island with very active volcanism. Steep volcanic cliffs drop into the Atlantic Ocean and steady erosion curved deep gullys in the volcanic slopes. Locals call them barrancos and build stone paved donkey paths to cross them and reach the villages on top of their slopes. Auf einem Hotspot tief im Erdinneren sitzend ist La Palma eine der aktivsten Vulkanregionen der Welt. Fast überall stürzen die Vulkan-Klippen steil ins Meer, die Erosion hat tiefe Schluchten in die Vulkanflanken gegraben. Die Einheimischen nennen diese Schluchten Barrancos und pflastern Maultierpfade, die als Camino Reales diese Barrancos durchqueren und auf der anderen Seite zu einem kleinen Dorf hoch über der Schlucht führen.
