Government minister Peter Mandelson travels in the first class carriage of a train. He is returning from a visit to the North East of England where he met with local businesses to see how they are taking advantage of the new global low carbon economy. Peter Benjamin Mandelson was born in London in 1953. He is a British Labour politician and appointed Secretary of state for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform on 3 October 2008. Mandelson is regarded as one of the main players along with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown of the modern Labour Party and its rebranding as 'New Labour'. He was made a life peer (Lord Mandelson) in 2008 so he would have voting and speaking rights in the House of Lords.
