The earliest fall variety; at least ten days earlier than any other marrow squash; very pro- lific, color deep orange, of fair quality. Boston Marrow. The standard type of Marrow Squash in Massachusetts, and also largely used elsewhere. Essex Hybrid. A cross between the Hubbard and Turban, with color, shape and qualities of the latter, and the dryness and hard shell of the former. Warren. Similar in shape to the Essex Hybrid, but of richer color; a very deep orange, shells also are thicker, and are rough and warty; claimed to be of bet- ter quality than the Essex Hybrid; very popular among market men where known. Bay State. Similar in shape to the Essex Hybrid; shell slate color and harder, and flesh dryer than that variety; of excellent flavor and very solid. Hubbard. A favorite winter squash, and more largely grown as a late sort. ESSEX HYBRID. than any other. Chicago Warted Hubbard. bard, with thickly warted shell.
